Above illustration is from the sequel to The Z Factor, Greetings from Karpland. In the process of drawing and writing basically at the same time. Funny how when I was creating the Z, the process was very different. Also reading Sin City by Frank Miller. SN is supposed to be the pinnacle of graphic novels. That I think is up to the individual to decide. I like the basic format and the focus is definitely on the art not the writing, which is the point to a graphic novel. Don’t see how they were able to carve out a film from it. But I’m not going to turn this into a review.
Last night I was invited by my new friend Maria Pavolvska, artist extraordinaire to an event at MANA Fine Arts here in JC. Got to meet lots of artists who have studios there. It’s a huge place and very impressive.
Last on the art list is a trailer from a new film by Alexandro Jodorowsky: The Dance Of Reality
Some of you may recall Jodorowsky’s film El Topo, which was incredibly gory and needlessly slaughtered hundreds of animals. This was before animal rights activists had anything to say. Aside from that it was very controversial and quite disturbing on other levels as well. That was the trend back in the 70’s, low budget films, foreign, shock value for the sake of shock value, Snuff films wondered into our existence along with John Waters Pink Flamingos. It was indeed an interesting time. Lots of transitioning in the arts and Fluxus was in the forefront paving the way for installation and performance art to be taken seriously.
