Kara Walker Revisited…

Unfortunately some things never change. I tried to find the most offensive one to post for the blog. I think this one wins.

I have to admit I still haven’t seen the show and will get there very soon before it closes. I don’t know how to react to something like this. On one hand it’s getting a lot of publicity and I’m sure thousands have seen the show. Judging from the selfies people are having a lot of fun with this. On the other hand some people’s reactions are just plain sad. They are feeding into the plight of women and it seems that no matter how far we have come, there are always going to be those assholes that feel uncomfortable with it. Let’s face it people have a hard time with women. Even women have a hard time with women. We are taught to compete with each other over men, jobs, etc. Men have an easier time with each other. Sort of like a brotherhood, whereas women keep fighting the fight and apparently spinning their wheels. Then you have the phrase “boys will be boys.” This excuses a mans adolescent behavior but looking at these selfies, what can you say about the women who have participated? Reminds of growing up in the 60’s & 70’s and having to endure all the blatant and rampant sexism. Too bad.
