Anything For Attention…

Pussy Riot has an admirer, Bert Verwelius. If you read the link you’ll find he is a real estate developer/photographer and has a taste for the perverse and cheesy. I understand their alliance with him since they have become super stars and could use his backing. Upon visiting both his websites, he reminds me of those middle age guys in the 70’s who wanted to be hip and cool and get laid, which leads me to question how sincere he is concerning their recent incarceration. The real estate site leads me to believe he may be contributing to Condo Cancer. The photography site convinces me that he is indeed one of those creeps in the name of art perpetuate sexism as well as agism.

All the photos seem staged which lead me to question how serious this whole thing is. Sometimes people deliberately get arrested just to become super stars. That’s part of the whole gangsta-rapper mentality. Sort of like a badge of honor did Pussy Riot have Hollywood in their sights? If so they had better bring their own water. I do like the fact that they are anti-Putin.

Another important show at PS 1:

The exhibition of photos by Gordon Parks is amazing. It presents a narrative that is quite exquisite and sobering. It’s a must see if you get down to Atlanta. It’s part of our history that should have spawned a better life, rather than encourage poverty and violence. When I think about racism, gentrification, etc., I bring it all back to The Z Factor and Greetings from Karpland. Both address the same issues. I truly wish we would better educate our people (all people), so history would stop repeating itself. Perhaps if I send a copy of The Z Factor to Washington. Unfortunately I don’t think it would make much of a difference. I’ll only be seen as crazy and get put on some stupid watch list.

Last but not least this was sent to me by my friend Denise:

Apparently it has created quite a stir. Leave it to an artist, Darren Cullen to come up with something like this.
