I was painting them and slowly turning them into abstracts. I researched them, had shows about them, etc. The clothing company Brooklyn Industries, uses a water tower as it’s logo. When I saw this I knew it was just a matter of time that someone would think of this:
Turns out after I Googled it, a lot of towers are being used as housing and restaurants.
Personally I think it’s a cool idea. But it’s Williamsburg and cool is the way to go there. Now I’m certain they will start making them into condos. You know how the pattern works: artists (me painting them), gays ( I don’t know if any gays are involved here), restaurants, shops, then the wealthy. To take one of my beloved images and recycle it’s purpose is OK, but like I said, it’s just a matter of time before some trust fund babies will be living in them. Perhaps they can turn them into Petropoli. They are rather large.
In the meantime we are experiencing a major storm that has stopped all activity. Hopefully I’ll be able to fly out on Sunday. I’m at a point now that I am ready to start my Heidelberg adventure.
Ivan will be back soon…
